Tomorrow, from 7PM-11 at Irvin Mayfield’s Jazz Playhouse, we are honored to feature the excellent saxophonist, Derek Douget. BAD DUDE!Derek is the real-deal modern New Orleans #BAM musician. He plays with all the heavy cats – Nicholas Payton, Ellis, Branford, Jason and Delfayo Marsalis, Terrence Blanchard, Kermit Ruffins. And he is my favorite modern soloist to listen to in town. Dat boy good…REAL good…
I wanted to post a bunch of old pics from when we were much younger and thinner and more hopeful that learning all the right licks in 12 keys would unlock the deepest secrets to being a bad cat and getting rich playing jazz. HAHAhahahahahahha!! How naive we were…
Derek is no longer young or thin and he’s not filthy rich…but he did learn how to play everything in 12 keys and he has unlocked the secret to being a bad cat. (he won’t tell me…) Peter Harris, Darrian Douglas and I are going to do our very best to provide him with some swinging grooves so he can do what he does best…blow roofs off of joints.
What could be better than checking out some great music on a Sunday evening in New Orleans featuring a true artist and master of his craft?
Watching Tiger Woods at the US Open, you say? OK, yeah…maybe…
